random thoughts

Today I bought vitamin C to take since my throat is hurting. I showed it to my señora to figure out how to take it and she told me a lovely story. The brand name is Redoxon, and she said when she was a girl and went to the Obgyn that the Dr. told her to take the Redoxon for women problems. And she said "Redoxon? Really?" And the Dr. said yes, but backwards. Backwards it is, no xoder, pronounced "no joder". (Don´t have sex)
Maybe you had to be there.
My señora told me not to repeat this story and also covered her face when she told it to me.

Language Barrier Incidents

(Todo en espanol)
Silvia (daughter of senora´s friend, 29): I cannot speak English at all.
Me: Do you speak languages other than Spanish? (Instead of saying "espanol" I meant to say "castillano" which is what spanish is called in other parts of Spain, but I really said "de castillo" which means castle)
Silvia looks extraordinarily confused.
Silvia: Princess? Dragon?

To explain "espinaca" to me, my senora had to act like Popeye to communicate that it was made of spinach. She is like 60 and looks like Julie Andrews.

More to come...

Sometimes life is a strange dream, especially when you are on a ten hour flight to Spain and every time you half wake up, the old man sitting next to you feels the need to share random information, like how he and his wife love to square dance or the tendinitis in his thumb. The good thing about life is that you can go back to sleep.
